What is Earth Day?
What is Earth Day?
<< BackFounded in 1970 by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson, Earth Day has come to signify support and awareness for the protection and stewardship of the planet. It is celebrated worldwide with events, public programs, and in-the-home practices that foster an understanding of how and why we need to care for the Earth.
April 22nd is the day we band together and share methods for creating a more sustainable future. While individual efforts may seem small, collective action and behavioral change can create a positive impact on the environment. With your help, we can work to reduce and eliminate environmental issues like climate change, extinction and pollution.
When looking for ways to participate in Earth Day celebrations, consider the following:
- Plant a tree (see Forest Man for inspiration)
- Pick up trash in your community
- Create a home recycling plan
- Conserve electricity
- Learn about composting
- Look for ways to reduce waste
- Explore upcycling
- Think minimalism
Good planets are hard to find. Let’s help keep ours healthy and green. Happy Earth Day.
