Maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) professionals know that keeping manufacturing plants running smoothly is tough work.

MRO includes the essential tasks and processes involved in maintaining, repairing, and managing the operational efficiency of equipment, facilities, and infrastructure within manufacturing and industrial settings.

MRO professionals are tasked with ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of the equipment and facilities they manage to achieve broader objectives, including minimum production downtime, maximum lifespan of assets, and maximum throughput at minimal cost.

The Challenge of Harsh Conditions

It’s a full-time job to keep facilities and equipment running like well-oiled machines in ideal conditions. But in the real-world conditions are never perfect. According to NASA, 2023 was the hottest summer on record and now winter is in full swing. Extreme weather is one of many factors that directly impact equipment functionality. However, dryers, chillers, and other equipment that run at extreme temperatures more commonly impact equipment functionality.

Extreme Temperature Challenges

In extreme temperatures, everyday lubricants may fail. Instead, it’s recommended to use a silicone or gel lube that will withstand extreme temperatures. Silicone also resists water and protects surfaces from rust to reduce unplanned downtime and increase time between maintenance intervals.

WD-40 Specialist Silicone is the idealsolution. This silicone lubricant safely lubricates, resists water and protects metal and non-metal surfaces - including rubber, plastic and vinyl. Once dried, this formula leaves a clear, non-staining film that doesn't stick or make a mess, so it won't attract dirt. WD-40 Specialist Silicone Lubricant is great for use on cables, pulleys, guide rails, valves, linkages, hinges, locks and more.

  • Provides up to 5X greater wear protection than the competition.* Our formula delivers quality lubrication for less frequent reapplications.
  • Lubricates at least 2X longer than the competition**
  • Lubricates, resists water and protects metal and non-metal surfaces
  • 50-state VOC compliant
  • NSF Category H2 (#146863)

Moisture and Caustic Chemicals

Whether you’re running production lines that must run smoothly or repairing machinery and equipment, rain, sleet, snow, temperature altering equipment, and substances, like caustic chemicals, present challenges to MRO professionals because these elements cause tools and equipment to rust.

Rusted and corroded parts can cause costly downtime or the need to replace critical and expensive equipment. Invest in long-lasting lubricants/coatings that break free parts that are rusted and frozen in place. If corrosion is present, choose a rust penetrant that can travel deep into crevices, threads, and seams to break the bonds that hold parts together. A good penetrant will break these bonds and also leave behind a protective layer that prevents future rust.

To prevent corrosion, consider WD-40 Specialist® Corrosion Inhibitor. This solution is an anti-rust spray ideal for preventative maintenance and use in extreme environments such as high humidity.

WD-40 Specialist Penetrant is a fast-acting penetrant with capillary action to penetrate deep into crevices, threads and seams to break the rust bonds that hold stuck parts together. WD-40 Specialist Penetrant is a low odor formula that works on contact to free rusted nuts, bolts, threads, locks, and chains leaving behind a protective layer that prevents rust and corrosion from re-forming. Now the job is even easier with our proprietary 8” flexible straw that bends and keeps its shape, allowing access to hard-to-reach places.

  • Penetrates up to 2x faster than the competition*
  • Prevents rust 10x longer than the competition**
  • Penetrates rust to free up stuck, frozen, or seized equipment and parts
  • Safe to use on metal, rubber and plastic parts
  • Ideal for use on nuts, bolts, threads and locks
  • 50-state VOC compliant

It’s a high-performing industrial spray that penetrates faster and keeps rust from reforming longer than the competition. This solution is also safe and cost-effective.

Dry Conditions

Dry conditions present unique challenges to MRO professionals.

Some dry conditions present an excessive amount of dust, dirt, and/or sand that can cause equipment issues. Dry environments usually have a lot of particles in the air that cling to most lubricants and, in turn, equipment. In other words, some lubricants, required to keep equipment moving, attract those contaminants.

To reduce the labor and time required for frequent reapplication, select a dry lube that will provide longer-lasting lubrication.

A dry lubricant will prevent buildup and keep your equipment running smoothly. Dry lubricants are best used where cleanliness and maximum performance are required as they dry quickly. That’s why dry lube is a great solution for dry conditions. Dry lube also works well on vertical surfaces and in conditions where workers need to spray above their heads.

WD-40 Specialist Dry Lube is best used where cleanliness and maximum performance are required as it dries quickly, leaving behind a molecular layer of PTFE that resists particles floating in the environment, such as sand, dust, and oil buildups.

WD-40 Specialist Dry Lube keeps your equipment running smoothly with long-lasting corrosion protection that provides superior lubrication with no oily residue.

WD-40 Specialist Dry Lube is great for reducing friction and wear on blades and bits, door and window tracks, slides, conveyor belts, rollers, hinges, table saws, lathes, power tools and equipment. This dry lube is effective in temperatures ranging from -50°F to 500°F.

  • Provides 5x greater wear protection than the competition for longer-lasting lubrication and reduced application frequency*
  • Lubricates at least 4x longer than the competition**
  • Safe to use on wood, paper, fabrics, leather, metal, rubber and most plastics (except clear polycarbonate and polystyrene).
  • NSF Category H2 (#146856)
